Primary activity
How are we connected?
Today we are going to look at how we are connected to other parts of the world. Sahil Saeed has a connection with Pakistan as he has relatives living there.
In class discuss the places you have connections with - make a list. Maybe your grandparents or parents come from a different country or perhaps you have family that has chosen to live in another part of the world?
Then using a world map on the interactive whiteboard find the places you are connected to, draw a line from them and put your name and why you are connected to that place.
What does the class map look like? How many different countries is your class connected to?
Now have a go at doing the same exercise on your own - except this time you are going to look at other ways you are connected to different countries.
Look at your shoes - where were they made? How about any other item of clothing - your jumper or your coat?
Now have a look at your reading book, your book bag, your packed lunch box (and if you haven't eaten them the items in it too!) Do you know where all these things come from?
See if you can find 10 things you use daily and where they come from and mark them on your own connections map.
Find one place that you know nothing about and spend 15 minutes finding out one interesting fact about it on the internet or from books and then share that fact with the rest of the class!
Finally, discuss how your view of your world might be different after doing this exercise.
What do you think about today's story? How would you feel if you were Sahil? Send your thoughts to Have your say or longer reports to Be a reporter and we will put the best on the site.

Sahil has family living in Pakistan - do any of your relative live in another country?
