Primary activity

Write a letter

Firstly, re-read today's article and then watch the video clip about the use of shark fins.

You are going to write a letter to the Chinese government to ask them to ban the use of shark fins in soup.

To do this you will need to have lots of facts to back up your opinions. Watch the video clip again and this time note down some of the things you might like to include from it in your letter. Do the same with the learnnewsdesk article and then use a search engine on the internet to find out more about the topic.

Use something like Word to write your letter on - this way you can edit, cut and paste your sentences and paragraphs once you have written them to give them more strength.

Remember you will need to be very persuasive - eating shark fin soup is something more than just having a tasty meal to them - it is a matter of tradition and honour.

Ask a friend to read through your letter - is it word perfect? Is every word spelt correctly and have you used the right grammar?

Ask your teacher if you can gather all the letters together and send them to an organisation like the WWF or Oceana who can help to campaign.
