Media focus

Today you are going to focus on the media's coverage of Sahil's story. Use the internet to look at newspaper websites, listen to radio reports and watch television news clips about the story. Don't limit yourself to just looking at the media in the UK - see if you can found out how the story was covered in Pakistan too.

Think about the following aspects of each media's coverage of the story:

  • How do the headlines differ/stay the same?
  • Where did the story appear - was it the main story?
  • Are there different details/quotes in each story?
  • Which one do you prefer and why?

Now discuss in class how the media can help a situation such as Sahil's - think about how police can use the media to help them.

Can you think of an instance where media coverage may have made or could have made a situation worse?

What do you think about today's story? How would you feel if you were Sahil? Send your thoughts to Have your say or longer reports to Be a reporter and we will put the best on the site.
