Dangerous dogs clampdown

HyperLink

A big shake-up in dangerous dog rules is being announced today.

Under the new rules, all dogs will have to be microchipped so that their owners can be more easily traced.

The new plans could mean it will become a criminal offence for a dog owner to allow their animal to be "dangerously out of control".

At the moment they are only breaking the law if the dog is out of control in a public place.

Now that law is going to be extended to cover attacks by dogs on private property to protect postal workers as well as visitors.
