Brave Britons who helped to save Jews and other persecuted groups during the Second World War were honoured at Downing Street yesterday.
The men and women were awarded the Hero of the Holocaust medal by prime minister Gordon Brown.
Sadly, only two of the men given the medal were still alive and able to receive the honour in person. The other awards have been given posthumously.
Mr Brown announced the creation of the medal when he visited the former Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland, last year.
