Ancient bird discovery

HyperLink

Scientists are on the brink of finding out more about ancient birds which died out hundreds of years ago, by taking DNA from fossilised eggs.

Giant birds, such as the mysterious moa and the elephant bird, are now being investigated thanks to a new technique.

Previously, scientists had tried unsuccessfully to collect DNA from fossilised eggs but had failed as they had used a method normally used for collecting DNA from bones.
