Bad egg

A businessman was jailed for three years yesterday after admitting to making a fortune by selling battery farm eggs as free range or organic eggs.

Around 100m mislabelled eggs sold by Keith Owen ended up on the shelves of supermarkets including Sainsbury's and Tesco.

The fraud carried on for two years, making Keith Owen, from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, over £3 million in profits.

Many shoppers choose to buy free range or organic eggs because they think it's worth paying more to know the eggs they eat come from happy, healthy hens.
