What does the summit hope to achieve?
The aim is a new climate agreement which can move on from the agreement made in Kyoto in 1997. There are four main things to discuss:
1. How much rich countries are going to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases
2. How much big developing countries such as China and India are going to do to limit the growth of their emissions - which is happening at a great speed as they become richer and more developed.
3. How to pay for help needed by developing countries to reduce their emissions and also cope with the impact of climate change - such as floods etc.
4. How is the money for point three going to be managed and by who?
